The other 4.15 lakh families
Tripura has around 9.75 lakh families. When Ayushman Bharat arrived, a little over half of them were covered. The rest, about 4.15 lakh families, had no state-funded health insurance at all.
In February 2024, Tripura changed that with the Chief Minister Jan Arogya Yojana. Now, at least on paper, every family in the state has access to ₹5 lakh of cover a year, whether through PM-JAY or CM-JAY.
CM-JAY even includes state government employees, if they’re willing to trade their medical allowance for it. Here’s how it works.

How to get CM-JAY
- Check if your family is on PM-JAY. If not, you’re likely eligible for CM-JAY.
- Bring ID: Aadhaar and ration card.
- Visit an empanelled hospital or centre for verification.
- Get your card. If you’re admitted and not on PM-JAY, the hospital’s Ayushman Mitra can enrol you.
- Use it at empanelled hospitals in Tripura.
