In 2024, it started meaning something else too. The state decided that every NFSA ration card family would get Ayushman Bharat’s ₹5 lakh cashless cover. In a six-day drive in March 2024, over one crore families got their cards.

What Bihar families should know
A card isn’t the same as knowing how to use it. Know which hospital is empanelled near you, and keep the card and Aadhaar where the family can find them.
Your ration card details matter. If a family member’s name or Aadhaar link is wrong on the ration card, verification can stall.
Hospital stays only. Routine OPD visits and check-ups generally aren’t covered.
Check the hospital first. Empanelment can change. A quick call to 14555 before planned treatment helps.
Seniors need a separate card. People aged 70+ register separately for the Vay Vandana card.
